Advance your research with data science, learn from leading experts, and exchange ideas across disciplines: the Helmholtz School for Data Science in Life, Earth and Energy (HDS-LEE) makes it possible in North Rhine-Westphalia’s ABCDJ triangle—Aachen, Bonn, Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Jülich.
HDS-LEE trains the next generation of data scientists in close connection with domain expertise and cutting-edge research across three key application areas:
- Life and Medical Sciences (e.g., systems medicine, neuroscience, computational biomedicine, systems biotechnology, bioinformatics),
- Earth Sciences (e.g., terrestrial systems, geofluid dynamics, atmospheric composition),
- Energy Systems and Materials Science (e.g., energy and chemical systems, systems analysis and technology evaluation, quantum theory of materials, microstructure physics and alloy design).
To achieve this, HDS-LEE is looking for talented graduates in mathematics, computer science, physics, materials science, earth science, life science, and engineering from around the world who are eager to work at the interface of domain research and data science. As doctoral researchers at HDS-LEE, they develop new data science methods and apply state-of-the-art AI and machine learning technologies to tackle demanding scientific challenges.
