HDS-LEE Retreat 2026

Three inspiring days of science, exchange and community at the HDS-LEE | Helmholtz School for Data Science in Life, Earth and Energy Retreat 2026! 📊💡

From September 9–11, around 50 scientists from the HDS-LEE community — including doctoral researchers from the second and third cohorts and Principal Investigators — came together at Kloster Heidberg in Eupen for scientific exchange, professional development and community building.

The programme featured a range of inspiring sessions and workshops, including the HDS-LEE Alumni Talk with Dr. Eike Cramer (UCL), a peer-learning format led by Daniel Kazem Lou, a workshop on Good Scientific Practice with HDS-LEE Speaker Prof. Alexander Mitsos, and a session on career planning and navigating the transition beyond the PhD with Viola Middendorf from Career Counseling & Coaching at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

A special thank you to our doctoral representatives, Sarah Schreyer and Lukas Kesper, for gathering perspectives from our doctoral researchers and contributing to the further development of the graduate school. 🙌
