Kick-off 2026
New connections, fresh beginnings: the kick-off of the 3rd cohort at the Forschungszentrum Jülich brought together researchers across the HDS-LEE network.

We started with an opening session by the coordination team and doctoral representatives, including an HDS-LEE bingo that quickly broke the ice and set an interactive tone for the day.
A warm welcome and a special moment followed, as HDS-LEE speaker Prof. Alexander Mitsos bid farewell to Prof. Wolfgang Wiechert. Prof. Wiechert's exceptional dedication played a pivotal role in establishing HDS-LEE and steering it through successive phases of growth and development.
A networking lunch with engaged Principal Investigators, together with an interactive Data Challenge in cooperation with DKZ.2R (Rhine-Ruhr Center for Scientific Data Literacy) fostered exchange, collaboration, and hands-on learning in data organization and metadata structuring.
A big thank you to all participants for your energy and openness. We extend our sincere gratitude to our doctoral representatives Natalie Kubicki and Richard Paul for championing their fellow researchers and contributing meaningfully to the doctoral experience at HDS-LEE. We also thank the DKZ.2R team Alicia Janz, Katharina Immel, Alexandra Mielke and Marvin Lorber for putting together such a high-quality data challenge.
